It’s that time of year again when the leaves turn colors & fall to the ground, humans & their pawsome furbabies start thinking about costumes they may want to make for Halloween but more impawtantly; especially for Epilepsy Warriors, we get the purple out to decorate our pumpkins.

If you have been pawt of our community you nose every year we yap about why we do that.  Hi, CEO Olivia here to remind you or if you are new, to educate, ‘Why the woof is that purple pumpkin all about.

We have been yipping about ‘The Purple Pumpkin Project since 2015 & because we feel that this is a wagnificent way to get humans to ask us why. That’s pawsactly what The Purple Project founder’s intension was when he started this yearly event ten years ago. 

Ron Lamontagne who’s youngest son was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2009 at the age of four started the Purple Pumpkin Project  Facebook page on September 2, 2012. Within two days, the page had likes in all 50 states; it reached more than 500 likes in the first three days. Ten days later, the page surpassed 1,000 likes, & photos of purple pumpkins started pouring in. Within two years the PPP Facebook page had grown expediently & purple pumpkins are now appearing globally. Why is that pumpkin purple?…to initiate dialog & to spread awareness of epilepsy.

1 in 26 Americans will be diagnosed with Epilepsy at some point in their life. Epilepsy is also one of the most common neurological diseases in dogs, some studies estimate the prevalence of canine epilepsy is estimated to be between 0.5-5-7 percent. This means that as many as 1 in 20 pawsome dogs may experience a seizure in their lifetime. 

I was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy before my 1st birthday.  As a Canine Epilepsy Ambassador I spread awareness wherever I go & try to reach others all over the world.

This Halloween, on the eve of Epilepsy Awareness Month, turn one of your pumpkins purple & encourage others to do the same. Host a purple pumpkin decorating or carving event at your home, school or workplace & help your community get seizure smart.

  2. Iss Sunday now Olivia an BellaSita seemedbettur. Shee went to aunty Debbie’ss with sum cookiess an aunty’ss cat went aftur BellaSita…..shee iss back now an her tummy iss hertin an shee iss shakin again.
    Shee iss freeked out…..
    Mee bee quiet fore her ….mee not want another Seezure to happen!

    1. It takes time to recover my furbulous feline furiend.
      Epilepsy is a strange condition.
      I’m sure you did not intend to frighten your BellaSita Mom.
      Stay in the moment & honor your intention of love.

      At 3:15am I experienced a GM seizure.
      HuMom tried to pawvent it but it came too swiftly.
      She held me gently, kissed me, told me I was safe & she was there holding me in love.

      Today, I am pawsitively wobbly so resting by the woodstove with Dot & Jerry Underfoot by my side.
      HuMom is watching over me & laundering the bedding; sometimes I urinate when I have a seizure.
      HuMom always reminds me I am a good girl, it’s not my fault & she loves me very much.

      1. Mee-yow Olivia wee so so so sorry you had a Grande Mal…mee has herd they are pawfull. Wee betss yore Hu’man was rite there with you to comfert an console you!! An wee udnerstand THE ‘wobbly’ss’ fore sure.. BellaSita iss still shaky today.
        Seezuress are terryfyin to mee….mee runss an hidess.
        Mee wishess mee cuud comfert BellaSita butt mee too scaredy-cat.
        BellaSita meowed to mee shee had had bladdur trubbell beefore too…wish mee cuud due her laundry 😉

        When GG was with us 💜🐽💜 he was pawsitively freaked out when I would have a seizure episode; I understand.

        Just nose BellaSita Mom nose you love & care for her.
        Intention is everything.

  4. Mee-yow Olivia shee had ALOT of bumpss an bruisess an inn alot of pain…tooked over a week to heal.
    Since then Pawlice are not as ruff…butt when they come heer they still think BellaSita iss DRUNK! Since THE Purrymedicss know us; they put Pawlice inn their place….
    Inn fact, Purrymedicss TELL (not ask) Pawlice to leeve! 😉
    Sadly BellaSita had a Seizure last nite (Fursday) an shee was on floor fore at leest an hour.
    Shee furinallee got up an went to bed fore rest of nite….
    Shee iss not meowin today. Mee thinkss she losted her voice this time!

  5. An Kittiess who are alone two!!
    Mee-yow alot of timess BellaSita makess it to her bed. Sumtimess shee endsss up on THE floor!
    Not usre is wee mew each other..due you reememburr 2 yeerss ago she ended up on floor of bathroom; her head stuck between toilet an vanity an her legss inn our hallway????
    Stewpid Pawliceman thott shee was DRUNK!!
    Purrymedicss arrived an pushed him outta THE way an helped BellaSita up….they sent Pawlicman packin!
    Next day BellaSita lodged a complaint against Pawliceman an gotted an apologee…that nite was terryfyin Olivia!!! 😦

    1. Oh my dog BellaDharma! That must have been pawsitively frightening for you & pawfectly horrible for BellaSita Mum. Hopefully the pawlice have had some sensitivity training since then; if not, they need it.
