A Happy day for Sky ~ Sharing is Caring

You all remember Sky? She was taken from her family under BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) simply because of her appearance. Her incarceration had nothing to do with her lineage or history. Sky had been isolated in a Police Kennel since April 2016 despite a Court Ordered Exemption in August of that year.

Well I’m pleased to share the news that Sky is back home with her family. 3 bum swings! 3 more! She arrived home on January 30th & from what I’ve seen both her & her family are overjoyed.

It just goes to show you what a sustained team effort can accomplish. My huMom often says, “sharing is caring”, When Sky was lingering in a kennel her human’s were fighting for her release. So many humans from all over the world took up her cause. The ‘Save Sky from BSL’ campaign attempted to raise £12,000 to cover the legal costs, while more than 11,000 people signed a petition calling for her release. But also, people shared the posts & tweets which were in turn shared again & again. The story of Sky’s plight spread far & wide & it payed off. Sky is home.

Remember the power of social media. Sharing IS caring. When you participate, great things can happen. Don’t just “like” stories, if it’s about a cause you believe in, share it. It may reach that one person that can make all the difference, or raise enough voices to force positive action.

DDA Watch, a British campaign group which assists pet owners facing legal proceedings, helped in Sky’s case. They also advocate for focusing on responsible dog ownership & not punishing dogs with BSL.

Here is an article about Sky from the Bristol Post.

Save Sky from BSL

Hello everyone, Olivia here. Today I want to try & help a dog in need. I’d like your help too. Sky lives in the UK & has been taken from her family because of the BSL (Breed Specific Legislation). She simply looks like a ‘dangerous dog’ so she’s been condemned to die. That’s her in the picture above, does she look dangerous to you? The only reason she’s still alive is because her family is fighting a court battle to save her.

Her court costs are beyond what her family can manage on their own so they are getting help from an organization in the U.K. called DDA Watch. (Dangerous Dog Act Watch). They assist dog owners who are facing legal proceedings, for example under the Dangerous Dogs Act by advising dog owners in preparation for court hearings. They liaise with legal defense teams, police forces, local authorities, behavioral & ID experts & the families themselves involved in what are very distressing circumstances.

Here’s where you can help. The DDA Watch is helping Sky’s family. But they need financial help as they are a not for profit charity. They raise funds through online auctions which you can find on Facebook.  Please have a look at what they have to offer & make a bid on something. It’s for a very good cause.

A dog is a dog, regardless of their appearance. The BSL should be banned everywhere because it’s wrong.
