Are you feeling the build up to Howlloween?
HuMom explained Howlloween is a cultural howliday celebrated annually on October 31st that originated from the ancient Celtic harvest festival of Samhain & Christian observances like All Hallows’ Eve. It’s a day/ night of trick-or-treating, costume pawties, carving jack-o’-lanterns from pumpkins, giving out treats to the little humans & watching horror movies. Do us felines get treats? We should pawsitively should get treats, the stinker the better.
Did you nose Howlloween can often cause several major physical & emotional risks to us fur ledgers, ranging from toxic foods to high stress. Hi it’s Dot & Jerry Underfoot to meow now on how to keep us furbulous felines & wooftastic dogs safe.
Dot mews that creating a safe treat zone for us 4 leggers is a meowstic stategy. Give us our own tasty treats so we can join in without getting into the human’s candy bowl.
Frequent door opening can create the pawfect opportunity for a frightened or curious fur one to make a run for it. It can happen in a blink of an eye, so it is better to be pawpared by keeping your escape artist in a secure place of the house.
Oh, yes, another pawcaution is to decorate with care. Keep anything chewable, breakable or toxic out of paw’s reach. I nose this one pawsonally. HuMom left a pawtastic blue & silver bow on her work table (which we are not allowed on) & I, Jerry Underfoot thought it would make a purrfect snack. That is until I experienced a nasty technicolour yawn. Don’t worry, I only snacked on a little of it & huMom made sure I was ok. A good reminder to decorate with care.
Many of us would rather cat or dog nap through Howlloween. Give us a quiet, comfortable place to relax. Not all of us are pawty animals.
Keeping us happily occupied with pawhaps some catnip; we loves our
Dot & Jerry Knotty Catnip, or a pawfered toy; Knotty Toys, are purrfect for both us knotty cats & knotty dogs is wagnificent way to keep us distracted from the Howlloween activities.
Our pawsitively smart fursiter Olivia wrote a meowsome blog post on ‘Natural Solutions For Dealing With Your Good Dog’s & Cat’s Anxieties.’
Olivia writes, ‘I’ll chew this down for you it. 32% had noise sensitivity & they were frightened of at least one sound; for 26% it was fireworks. General fearfulness affected 29% of the good dogs. While 17% of dogs surveyed were afraid of other good dogs, 15% feared strangers & 11% had a fear of a tale of their own. It’s a stressful world out there even for us pampered pups & felines & that’s why with Howlloween & Howlidays approaching we wanted to share with you some natural solutions to helping your good dog or good cat with their anxiety.’ To read the rest simply click the title link above & you can. It’s not a favorite holiday of ours because every time the doorbell rings, the dogs go crazy. I always hope we have snow that night so kids won’t go out trick-r-treating.
