Pawsonally, I find today’s subject pawsitively clawful but Dot insisted that we should mew about it. Hi Dot & Jerry Underfoot here to meow about an a-paw-ling subject, ticks. Hurk-hurk-hurk-ack, my apawlogies; I’ll try to continue without acking. Honestly, I don’t nose why Dot couldn’t write this one today since it was her idea. Any mew, let’s move on.
In the last couple of days huMom has had to remove over half a dozen ticks off of Buddy. He gets a routine check before coming back in the house. This routine started many years ago when Olivia came in for her mid day snack of coconut yogurt & blueberries & huMom found a tick on Olivia’s ear. Ever since, Olivia & Eddy would be checked for those blood sucking gross creatures. Fortunately both of them had short hair which made it an easy job. Buddy also has short black hair but appawrently he isn’t as patient as Olivia & likes to squirm while huMom tries to remove them…acck…ack. Get it together Jerry Underfoot… again, my apawlogies.
Rather than us mewing & pawsible spewing we will pawfer a link to a blog post Olivia published, Yick, Ticks. It shows you what a tick twister looks like & how to use it to remove a tick from your furlegger. Olivia also shows a chart of a variety of ticks & their names. There is also a pawtastic video that shows you how to remove the tick correctly.
We often think of ticks as a spring or summer time pest. However, ticks love to hide under leaves, in tall grass or weeds even in the Fall. They can also be lurking on the ground waiting for a host to jump on. That’s why it is impawtant to check your furlegger & yourself every time you come back from a hike, walks or business breaks in the yard. It only takes a few moments to check & a minute to remove one one. HuMom keeps the tick twisters in a container & another container with alcohol to drop the tick in when she removes one on the porch. When they are inside huMom cleans the area with a swab soaked in alcohol. She is a pro now & you too will be after a few times.
Have a purrfect week!
