Dot & Jerry Underfoot here today to meow about a special day. That is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day which is observed every year on August 28th to honour & remember beloved fur furmily who have passed away.
Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day was founded in 2013 & is celebrated in Australia, Canada, UK, & USA . Author Deborah Barnes created the day after losing her furbulous feline, Mr. Jazz. The name comes from the famous “Rainbow Bridge” poem about a peaceful place where us four leggers, fishes, birds, snakes, lizards, turtles, & even spiders wait for their humans.
It’s a day to spend time cherishing photos & happy memories of lost furmily members. Some humans light a candle at home while others join online events like the virtual gathering of the Association for Pet Loss & Bereavement host.
One could donate to an animal shelter, pawhaps the one your fur loved one came from or volunteer your time in honour of them.
Sharing stories by posting a tribute online using the hashtag #RainbowBridgeRembranceDay is also a purrfect way to honor the love shared between you & your fur one.
There is no right or wrong way to observe Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. Listen to your heart, it will guide you.
You nose we will be honouring our fursister Olivia & fosterbro Eddy on Friday. We think about them everyday & have a LED candle lite by their photos & urns. HuMom will be thinking of so many of her furmily that is no longer there to touch but always in her heart & memories.
