It’s November 29th & dog gone it we couldn’t end November Epilepsy Awareness Month without yapping about Wally. Hi, CEO Olivia & Canine Epilepsy Amabassador here to bark about Canine Epilepsy Warrior Wally & Wally’s Canine Epilepsy Foundation.
The Wally Foundation is named after a Saint Bernard, Wally, who had his life cut short by epilepsy. Wally was cared for & loved by the Selwood family who in his memory founded Wally’s Canine Epilepsy Foundation. Rick Selwood is the founder & Executive Director. You can dig up more about him here.
The Wally Foundation believes that no one should have to euthanize a beloved family member for financial reasons. Nor should any dog rescue or animal shelter have to turn a dog away because of epilepsy & the expense of treatment. The Wally Foundation is a not for profit charity that provides financial assistance for qualifying owners of canine epileptics as well as rescue groups to obtain medications & veterinary services directly relating to epilepsy. Although officially in Delaware, TWF board members are located globally, as is their community & their outreach.
The treatment/management of canine epilepsy can be burdensome & expensive. It requires a self-less commitment. Some dogs are well controlled through medication & live a full life while sadly, others have their lives cut short. The treatment/management of epilepsy requires constant vigilance & a strict adherence to medication schedules & protocols. This is the reality of living with an epileptic dog. It is also the reason The Wally Foundation operates, to offer support, assistance & to raise awareness. Their website provides news, research articles, links & support.
Wally’s Canine Epilepsy Foundation is our charity of choice, & a portion from every Knotty Toys For Good Dog hemp toy sold goes to them, but more than that, my huMom sits on the board of directors. She has been the TWF’s Director of Communications for 7 years now. Her current pawsition is Secretary & Director of Social Media. She understands first hand the growing need for support, resources & assistance. As well, she has seen how Wally’s Foundation’s assistance has changed the lives of those epileptic dogs & their families.
But, they can’t do it without humans like you. Humans who help spread awareness & humans who donate; even $5 is a wooftastic help. So, this November 30th Giving Tuesday why not skip that special coffee & help a wagnificent dog & their loving caregiver by donating to Wally’s Canine Epilepsy Foundation via PayPal.
Another pawsome way to help is to make a donation in the name of a friend or family member this Holiday Season. Your generosity makes for a truly pawtacular gift while also making the epilepsy journey for another family easier.
Please think of the Wally’s Canine Epilepsy Foundation tomorrow’s Giving Tuesday, during the howlidays & into the new year. Join their community on Facebook & watch for their new blog coming in the new year.
Sending pawsitive energy & strength to all my fellow Epilepsy Warriors throughout November Epilepsy Awareness Month & on.
