Hello everyone, CEO Olivia here. As you must know by now, I live with idiopathic canine epilepsy. My huMom does her very best to aid me in managing my epilepsy. Part of our routine is to keep a journal. In it we record dates & times of an event as well as anything unusual about my behavior. I recommend anyone living with canine epilepsy to do this.

It’s because of my journal that over time we noticed something unusual. A pattern became clear. I seem to have a grand mal event whenever there is a quick or extreme change in the weather. For example, if we have a run of warm humid days followed quickly by cooler dry days, we go on seizure alert because my chances of having an event go way up.

We don’t really know why this is. These weather changes can also trigger a migraine in my huMom, so perhaps the barometric pressure has something to do with it. Whatever the case, we are very sure that for me at least, a seizure can be triggered by a rapid shift in the weather.

I’m curious if this is the case with other Epi-Warriors like me. If you live with canine epilepsy, I’d be interested to know if the weather affects you as well. Unfortunately, if it is the case, there isn’t much that can be done other than to be prepared. An early warning system is better than a surprise.
