“Raising a dog is like a rainbow. Puppies are the joy at one end. Old dogs are the treasure at the other.” Anonymous

CEO Olivia yapping today.  My 12th Barkday is coming up, June 21st.  I’ve been a senior for some time but we dogs don’t let that interfere with enjoying life & being pawsitively happy in the moment.  Of course, there are health issues that we can face such as mobility, hearing or sight loss, bladder issues & such.  None of those matter when you have the love of your human(s) who do whatever it takes to make you comfortable.

Some seniors, no fault of their own are not so lucky & their humans are blind to the treasure right under their noses.  Some dog’s humans may also be seniors themselves & may find their own health an issue.   This may mean they can’t take care of their loved senior dog while they are hospitalized or sadder while they transition to end of life. Today we are barking about a wooftastic organization who’s mission is to assist senior dogs & humans, ElderDog Canada

ElderDog Canada recognizes the wagnificent vital connection between older adults & their dogs & the impawtance of pawserving the lives & dignity of older dogs. Their vision is volunteer-driven organization that is know across Canada for making a furbulous difference in the lives of older dogs & older humans by contributing to the support of & knowledge about the senior-canine relationship.  Their mission is to honour  & pawserve the animal-human bond through care, companionship, commemoration, & education.

ElderDog’s Goals Are To:

*Assist & support older humans in the care & well-being of their canine companions

*Pawvide care & companionship for older dogs whose lives have been disrupted due to illness or death of a human companion

*Educate health & animal care pawfessionals & the general public of all ages about the human-animal bond in general & the significant role of companion animals in the health & well-being of seniors in pawticular

*Support & conduct research into the human-animal bond with a focus on seniors & canine companionship

ElderDog Canada‘s  growth is pawsitively due to the formation of local chapters (Pawds) & regional nodes (cluster of local Pawds). Currently, there are 30 across Canada. A Pawd will reflect the local community needs & interests, as well as the pawtastic energies of those pawsome humans involved.  Pawds across Canada are united by the ElderDog vision, mission, goals, & values.

ElderDog Canada supports the growth of Pawds across Canada & consistency within the organization, pawspective Pawd leaders by pawviding them with a start-up kit & mentoring through the start-up pawcess.

Although huMom ususally does not show unpleasant emotions when Dot, Jerry Underfoot or myself are in the room, I have sniffed her saddness when she has read about a senior dog who has found themselves without their human(s).  Thank dog for the humans who create organizations like ElderDog Canada.

Have a pawsome week, CEO Olivia, Dot & Jerry Underfoot 💜
