Doing Your Part to End Puppy Mills

Hello everyone. Olivia here. As many of you know, we at Knotty Toys for Good Dogs are very much against so called puppy mills. Because puppy mills are legal & are supported by many large corporations & dog registry groups, it will take a lot of dedicated people with a tremendous amount of persistence to bring change. But it can be done, you can help make a difference.

The first step is simple, never purchase a puppy from a pet store or online, & never patronize a store that sells puppies. If you really want a puppy, I bet a shelter or rescue in your area has a litter or will soon enough.

If you purchase from a breeder; make sure you can visit & see where the puppy was born & meet its parents.  If the breeder balks at the idea of you coming to their kennel, or if they suggest a meeting somewhere else, chances are they are operating a puppy mill.

Educate your friends & family. You’d be surprised how many people have no idea what a puppy mill is & why they should be made illegal. On that note, contact your local government & see if local bylaws allow puppy mills & if so, fight to change the law.

Help spread the word about puppy mills by sharing & posting on social media. There are many informative anti-puppy mill Facebook pages, a list can be found here.

But it all comes down to a simple mantra, “Adopt don’t shop”. Remember, when you adopt, you enrich three lives, yours, the dog you rescued & the one you just made space for.
