Today is the 2nd last Monday of November Epilepsy Awareness Month & tomorrow is GivingTuesday!  What’s the dog is GivingTuesday? Hi, CEO Olivia here to yap all about just that & why giving to The Wally Foundation – canine epilepsy is impawtant.

Created in 2012, GivingTuesday started a day that encouraged humans to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires 100s of millions of humans to give, collaborate, & celebrate generosity.

It’s a wagnificent idea that is pawsitively easy to be pawt of.  The simple act of patting a dog & making it’s tail way, or a volunteer therapy dog making a senior or sick child smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, volunteering at a local shelter, walking a sick person’s dog, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help. We all, 2 leggers & 4 leggers have something to contribute towards making a better world for every living being to live in. 

Now the pawt about the Wally Foundation – canine epilepsy.  Why is Wally Foundation – canine  epilepsy is the charity of our choice?  Most of you nose that I am a Canine Epilepsy Warrior & Ambassador but did you nose that TWF has been around almost as long as me.  I’m 12 years young & TWF will be 10 years old this coming 2023.  

TWF all started because the Executive Director Rick Selwood had a St Bernard who lived with canine epilepsy.  His name was Wally.  When Wally passed on Wally’s family wanted to do something in his name.  The wanted to help families who struggled with the cost of managing their Canine Epilepsy Warriors care.  Since then TWF has helped over 250 families, rescues & shelters.  They have given over $100, 000 in cash & medication.  TWF has a Board of Directors, my huMom is on that Board, volunteers & Ambassadors.  These pawsome humans donate money, medications,  offer information & experiences & more impawtantly a compassionate ear. 

Wally Foundation – canine epilepsy is made up of volunteers & all proceeds go directly to recipients.  Any expenses are paid out of pocket by the volunteers of TWF & or Board. TWF never gives cash to recipients.  Instead they will directly pay the bill i.e. the Veterinarian or Pharmacy.  They have even helped out a family who spent all their money on caring for their Canine Epilepsy Warrior & fell behind on their house taxes. 

There is a stringent approval & verification process.  Potential recipients are sent a package via email.  This package includes TWF guidelines & assistance application.  Once the application is completed it is sent to Executive Director who verifies all the information.  This process can take up to 30 days or more. 

Everyone needs help sometime in their life & it is wonderful to nose there are humans & four leggers out there offering a compassionate hand or a paw.
