As many of you nose, I live with idiopathic epilepsy & because of this we like to share with others what we have learned. I have yapped before about the impawtance of keeping a journal. Keeping records helps identify patterns & warning signs. When I have a Grand Mal seizure, dogsplay warning signs or experience focal seizures, my huMom will write it in my journal. She will also make note of things such as the weather, the moon phase & what activities we were doing such as travelling in the car, playing hard, lack of naps, or having guests.
My huMom tries to record as much detail as possible. The information can be of great use for my vet & the neurologist she confers with. It also takes out a lot of guess work. She can refer to the journal to see how many days apart my seizures occur, how I respond to my meds & get an overall look at the big picture. Keeping my journal helped my huMom dogscover that the full moon ( i.e. 3 days before until 3 days after) can be a trigger for me. Nosing this she started to give me 3mg of Melatonin to help me get through the cycle. The journal also showed how I would often seizure around the time of an extreme shift in the weather. Again, we can be pawpared & often pawvent a seizure by noticing my preictal behavior & using my ‘Pawvent An Event’ medication Keppra.
