Natural Solutions for Dealing With Your Good Dog’s & Cat’s Anxieties

HuMom pulled the Howloween box from the closet yesterday; we all know what that means.  Silly costumes that amuse the humans will be forced upon us furleggers & feathered furiends. Giggling spiritedly dressed children & alike will be roaming the streets & knocking on our doors.  CEO Olivia here today to bark about this trickery or treatery celebration & it’s pawsible effects on your good dog & or cat.

Not all of us furlegged or feathery critters enjoy the company of others outside the pack.  In fact a recent study done in Finland (author MIlla Salonen) analyzed the behaviors of 13, 715 good Finland dogs (264 different breeds). The study’s data  found 72.5% of the dogs experienced anxiety-like behaviors.

I’ll chew this down for you it.  32% had noise sensitivity & they were frightened of at least one sound; for 26% it was fireworks.  General fearfulness affected 29% of the good dogs. While 17% of dogs surveyed were afraid of other good dogs, 15% feared strangers & 11% had a fear of a tale of their own.  It’s a stressful world out there even for us pampered pups & felines & that’s why with Howloween & Howlidays approaching we wanted to share with you some natural solutions to helping your good dog or good cat with their anxiety.

E-Z Rest is an easy – to – use, better absorbed liquid formulation that has been specifically formulated with us dog’s & cat’s anxieties in mind.  The 3 herbs Albizia julibrissin (Silktree Flower), Biota orientalis (Arborvitae Seed), Ziziphus jujuba (Jujube Fruit) in E-Z Rest are referred to as nervines (herbs that specifically help support the nervous system) that act on the central nervous system which in turn help calm your furlegger’s anxieties.

EnduraStress helps to bring a sense of calm, concentration & mental focus to support your furleggers. The 5 herbs in EnduraStress Panax quinquefolius (North American Ginseng Root), Eleutherococcus senticosus (Siberian Ginseng Root), Astragulus membranaceus (Astragulus Root),  Codonopsis pilosula (Bellfower Root), & Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha Root) are adaptogenic herbs meaning they have health benefits for dealing with stress.  They are synergistic (interacting or cooperating giving rise to a whole that is greater than the simple sum of its parts) in the formulation to reduce physical & mental stress.

CBD Oil is this dog’s choice but I have used both EZ Rest & EduraStress & found them to be a pawsome choice to help relieve anxiety & stress.  CBD is also known as adaptogen. We know adaptogens assist the body in adapting to the different stress & anxiety faced by us furleggers. CBD does this while also pawmoting long term resilience of body & mind. Since taking CBD I have had over 7.5 months seizure free & that’s why it makes sense that I would rely on CBDs pawsome support.

    1. Long term anxiety is never good for us good dogs & cool cats. It can manifest into some dog gone nasty behaviors or health issues.

Another product that we have found useful are calming aids such as natural pheromone sprays and diffusers.

Pheromone sprays & diffusers work by mimicking the positive, or ‘happy cat’ pheromones, & can help to calm stressed or anxious cats by reassuring them that all is well in the nearby environment. Just like a feline mom would do for her wee kittens.

    1. Does Elsa actually live with OCD or are these behaviours that are related to her epilepsy?

From what HuMom & I know about good dogs & OCD is some Vets don’t recognize it as a canine disorder due to the obsessive nature; they believe dogs don’t have obsessive thoughts.

However, many Vets & Neurologist are now thinking differently. They believe OCD behaviour is real & OCD behaviour is related to both serotonin & glutamate pathways in the brain.
Glutamate seems to be important. Recent neuroimaging of people with OCD has shown higher blood flow & activation in the cortico-striato-thalamocortical circuits, a network that loops from the deep centres of the brain to the prefrontal cortex. This area is dominated by glutamate pathways that are thought to generate controlled movement & thought, & to modulate behavioural routines.

All of the natural solutions in this blog will address serotonin issues but we believe glutamate is a dietary issue.

We will dogfinitely look into this more.

      1. Her OCD behavior developed after she was diagnosed. It used to be rare but has started to show more frequently. My vet was useless about it and I feel badly that she’s totally stressed out about it. Thanks very much for your thoughts. I’ll do some research on glutamate myself. Thanks again for your help and good wishes. You guys are the best.

      2. HuMom was dizzy from eating too much this weekend; 🇨🇦Thanksgiving 😉
I went digging a little deeper & found that CBD is actually pawsome in dealing with glutmate issue. ‘CBD has multiple targets, but one aspect of its polypharmacy may be to help regulate excitatory glutamate (E) and inhibitory γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) (I) transmission, which may influence the activity of excitatory and inhibitory signalling pathways: For example, CBD facilitates glutamate and GABA neurotransmission’.
HuMom will PM you the link to the article if you would like to read the rest.

In regards to E-Z Rest & EnduraStress, EnduraStress would be a better choice for Elsa.
