Animal Assisted Therapy

News

Hello everyone, CEO Olivia here. Recently I was approached by an organization that deals with drug rehabilitation asking if we would add them to our resource page. Specifically in regards to Animal Assisted Therapy.

DrugRehab.com is a web resource provided & funded by Advanced Recovery Systems (ARS). Since 2015, the website has provided researched, fact-based resources for free. Readers can learn about the risks of various substances, the latest approaches to treatment & real stories of recovery.

Animal-assisted therapy when combined with other treatments for substance use disorders, can motivate patients to stay in treatment. Animals can also help therapists & clients resolve mental health problems in a way that isn’t possible with other types of therapy alone.

Animal-assisted therapy can be beneficial when added to a treatment plan, conducted by a provider who is appropriately trained. Many kinds of animals can participate in the therapy, not just us dogs. Cats, birds, even horses can participate in this therapy. It’s who the human feels comfortable with that matters.

Working with an animal while in therapy or recovery can reduce anxiety, help the patient processes emotions & even be helpful in staying with the treatment. We animals don’t judge & are always ready to give support & unconditional love.

Here is a more detailed article about Animal Assisted Therapy. It can be accessed on the Knotty Toys for Good Dogs’ resource page any time.
