Hello everyone, CEO Olivia barking at you. I’m sure you’ve all heard of the “Meals On Wheels” programs. Doris Taylor MBE founded Meals on Wheels in South Australia in 1953. The first meals were delivered to eight elderly Port Adelaide residents on 9 August 1954. Today there are M.O.W. programs in Australia, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom & the United States.
In the past few years, several Meals On wheels groups in the USA have begun adding pets to their client list. It’s a distressing fact but many elderly people are foregoing some of their own food to feed their dogs or cats because of a lack of options or means to provide proper nutrition for themselves & their pet. No one should have to decide between eating or surrendering a beloved animal companion due to poverty or being home bound.
As more communities establish Meals On Wheels for Pets programs, the days of deciding whether to eat a full meal or to share with their dog or cat are behind seniors in need. The security that comes with knowing that everyone’s nutritional needs are being met leads to an increase in quality of life.
Below is a news story of one example of how these programs help.
Do you have a Meals On Wheels for Pets in your city or community? They are almost always supported by volunteers, perhaps you could get involved. Compassion is a wooftastic thing.

Reminder – November is Epilepsy Awareness Month. This year I’m asking all my fellow Epilepsy Warriors & wagnificent supporters to help me raise Canine Epilepsy awareness globally. Here’s what I want you to do. Get your human to take your picture with a sign showing your “Bark Out” or motto against this horrible disease. Then send it to me by messaging my Facebook page, “Oh, the Life of Olivia“.
Once November arrives I will begin posting the pictures I’ve received. Let’s show the world how strong The Canine Epilepsy Community is.
Love this story! Thank you for sharing!
