Epi-Warrior Gibson

Gibson

Today we pay tribute to a fallen warrior. His huMom, Dorothy wrote such a wonderful piece on him we decided to share it as is.

“Gibson” Les Paul of Mystic Mountain

Gibson of my FiveSibes pack was a beautiful woolly Siberian Husky, who was an Epi-dog & ambassador for K-9 Epilepsy Awareness to show dogs can & do live full, happy lives with Canine Epilepsy, for however long we are blessed to have them. He is the star of my first FiveSibes Tale, the illustrated book What’s Wrong With Gibson? Learning About K-9 Epilepsy, & is also on the cover of my book  EPIc Dog Tales: Heartfelt Stories About Amazing Dogs Living & Loving Life With Canine Epilepsy (www.ArcticHousePublishing.com). He has been the face behind many of my articles & blog posts about Canine Epilepsy. Gibson & my mission was, & always will be, to give hope, information, & support to families of dogs with Canine Epilepsy so they know they are not alone in this journey.

Epilepsy did NOT define Gibson, living did. Epilepsy did not take him from me & this earth. Cancer did. Gibson was a strong, brave, & inspirational boy who did not let challenges stop him from loving life. He was diagnosed shortly after his third birthday with idiopathic Canine Epilepsy & was put on anti-seizure medications that, while helping to control his seizures, did cause side effects, including lethargy, bouts of vomiting, weight gain, & weakness in his hind end, but he met each health challenge head on, trusted that I would be by his side, & he conquered many. At the end, Gibson beat the “seizure monster.” His Epilepsy had been successfully managed by medications, supplements, & alternative therapies— he had not had a seizure for almost seven years! Bravo, Gibson!

I will always remember how he loved to give Gibbie kisses; go for walks & car rides; how he did his special Gibbie hip-hop dance; how happy he always was every single day; how he loved his girl Harley & his three siblings, the Pupsters – Wolf, Chloe & Bandit; how he loved to woo “love you” & “ice cream;” how he loved to give me his big, heavy, beautiful polar bear paw; how his namesake treats – the House Woof “Gibbie Snacks,” pizza crust, & ice cream were his all-time favorite treats; how much he loved the snow; how beautiful & velvety his nose was; & how soulful and understanding his beautiful blue eyes were.

Gibson taught me that even when faced with struggles & challenges, to meet them head on & always love & enjoy life. Run free, Gibson – you are my K9 Super Hero. I will love you for eternity, my sweet boy.  ~Dorothy “FiveSibesMom” Wills-Raftery
